Its Friday afternoon August 24, 1973 and The Cannonball is preparing to depart Hunterspoint Avenue for her journey to Montauk. LIRR C420 locomotive 203 and leased Bangor & Aroostook GP7 locomotive 66 are the assigned power. We see that AMAGANSETT, operating with the observation end forward, is the first car in the consist. The next car appears to be one of the former Kansas City Southern (Louisiana & Arkansas) sleepers.
