Lightweight Passenger Cars


In 1958-1959, LIRR acquired 30 coaches from Boston & Maine. These were 84 seat coaches. Sixteen of the thirty were rebuilt to 117 seat coaches. Fourteen of the thirty were rebuilt with stationary bars, which reduced seating capacity from 33 to 82 depending on the car. Follow this link for photos.

In May 1974, the Metroplitan Transportation Authority transferred a group of 14 coaches from Penn Central to LIRR. The heritage of these cars was Delaware, Lackawanna & Western to Erie-Lackawanna to Penn Central. Some of these cars were lettered for LIRR and some for Metropolitan Transportation Authority. I am seeking disposition information for these cars. Although I presume most of them were scrapped after they were retired by LIRR, I know a few were acquired by other owners. I wonder how many survive today.
